Refine your skills as a grant proposal writer by doing what foundation staff do: review grant proposals, discuss the proposals with colleagues, and identify strengths and weaknesses within the text. Three participants will submit proposals for review by the larger group.
- For those who are participating as reviewers only, the class will help you generate ideas for your own proposals, and show you how a review process can unfold.
- For those who are having their proposals reviewed, you will leave with a solid critique of your work. Previous class attendees have used feedback to improve their proposals, and get more funding for their organizations.
Register early as the class will be limited to 20 participants.

For a first-time or new proposal writer,
developing a grant request can be extremely challenging and
intimidating. This class will give you more confidence and provide you
with a solid understanding of what goes into a grant proposal. In this
class, we'll discuss:
-
How to write a strong needs assessment
-
How to write an evaluation plan
-
How to use stories and other information to bolster your case
-
What to include in your program and operating budget
-
How decisions are made
-
How to effectively communicate with staff at local foundations
-
What to expect after you have submitted your proposal
Beyond the lecture format, you'll have a chance to work in
small groups with others looking over sample proposals.
Time
will be set aside for an informal discussion on proposal writing.

This is an intro-level course. Learning how to find appropriate funding prospects not only helps you obtain grant dollars, it also saves you time from pursuing grants that are highly unlikely to be awarded to your organization.
In this class, we'll discuss grants databases and resources that are useful for researching grant prospects. But beyond running a search query in a database, we'll talk about how to go deeper and understand better what the funder's priorities truly are. We'll also focus on creating calendars to guide your annual grant-seeking campaign.
Coming to this class will help you identify prospects that are strongly aligned with your organization's mission, and will save you time by narrowing down your prospect list to the funders who are right for you.
